Main Street Facelift By this fall, Main Street from SR 235 intersection to Rader Rd. will have a new look. The Village will be installing standing curbs on East Main Street to the Village building and then from High Street to Rader Rd. ODOT will then come in and is planning to grind the road from SR 235 to Rader Rd. and then re-asphalt this portion. Along with asphalting, ODOT is installing new ADA compliant ramps at some intersections along the way. The Village is in the processing of purchasing the current streetlights downtown from AEP and plan to install new lights atop the current poles and new bases on the bottoms to make a new look for our downtown lighting. These changes will give our downtown a fresh new look. Construction on the curbs will be starting anytime after July 2 with the street grinding and repaving to start mid to late August. Traffic will be maintained through this process, but the Village asks that you use caution and have patience as you are traveling through town.
Mosquito Spraying Schedule June 30 July 14 July 28 August 4 August 18
If weather conditions do not allow for spraying on any of these dates, spraying will take place on the next available night.
...A Moment with the Mayor Great news for the village. Bill Morrison and Marietta Woods have sold their property (43.6 acres) on SR 186 behind the doctor's office to the Village. We will be annexing this property into the Village in the near future. Bill and Marietta are happy to see the Village get this property and they have been great people to work with. I hope we can get an assisted living complex out there, but time will tell.
I can't understand why with every newsletter, we ask people to clean up their property, don't put limbs out to pick up (except after storms) and don't put grass clippings in the streets and yet people still do it. Why?
Fall Clean-up This year's fall clean-up will be Thursday, and Friday, October 7 and 8. The Village workers will be picking up brush, limbs, leaves and any other yard waste. These items must be brought to the curb to be picked up. Items in plastic bags will not be picked up. The regular Village leaf pickup will still be performed as in the past. From now until October 7 & 8 , the village brush pile is open for any Village resident to drop off their items in the properly marked locations at the Waste Water Treatment Plant located in back of the lane off of Scott Street. The Village asks that signs be read and items be dropped off at the proper place. Thanks for your attention to this Village service.
Pool Pavers Pavers can still be bought to be placed in the picnic area at the pool. You can get your forms at the pool or at the Village office. This is a great way to memorialize something or someone special. All of the funds from the pavers sold go directly back to the pool for additional equipment, supplies or items needed for pool operation. Hurry, get yours today!
McComb Cookie Festival The 6th Annual McComb Cookie Festival is scheduled for August 7th and 8th at the Village Park. For the complete schedule, click here.
The parade route has been changed due to the installation and construction of curbs on Main Street. The parade route will start on W. South St and High St. and travel east to Cora St. and traveling south to Bond Preble, turning right onto Bond Preble, and traveling west to Todd St., turning left onto Todd St. and traveling to the South parking lot at the school. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. Please pass this information on to everyone that may be interested in coming out to watch the parade. For more information on the parade or the Cookie Festival, please contact Mayor Sudlow, Becky Wasson, Chris Ridge, Everett Latta or Nedra Aller. See you at the Festival.
Village Sewer Separation Project The Sewer Separation project is complete. The Village, along with an inspector for the Poggemeyer Design Group is now inspecting residences i the project area as well as a few outside the project to make sure all clean water connections are going to the storm sewer as required by the EPA. After the project area has been inspected, the Village will begin a program to continue to inspect residences, in hopes to have the entire Village inspected, once again, as required by the EPA. Inspections will be performed by a Village employee and the inspection will consist of looking at downspouts, floor drains, sump pumps in crawl spaces and basements. If the inspections reveal anything in question or in violation, all items will be recorded and letters will be sent out to property owners who need to address these problems. A time frame for homeowners to correct any problems found is not yet known, but the Village will do its best to give enough notice once it is known from the EPA. Some people have called and asked, "Why is my property being inspected. I don't have a sump pump or my down spouts go on top of the ground, etc..." The answer is the inspector has to visually check for himself and record any findings, whether good or bad, as required by the EPA. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. Thank you for your cooperation with these mandated inspections.
One Mile Walk/Bike Path Yet another addition to our already wonderful park has been started and hopefully, will be completed by September, 2010. A NatureWorks Grant was applied for to add to the existing stone walk path that currently winds around the bottom of reservoir #2. The continuance of this path will connect at the bridge and swerve its way around the east and north side at the bottom of reservoir #1 ending at SR 186. The grant includes paving the mile long path as well as installing benches, planting trees and possibly a cople of small shelter type places to sit and chat out of the sun. Waste containers will also be placed on\long the path. The current path is being well used by many people as it is, with it being paved, and with benches and such, it will be a wonderful addition to our already beautiful park. It will be used by many people for years to come.

KNG Gas Line As part of the ongoing system improvements, The Village of McComb, along with KNG Energy, will be replacing the aging natural gas lines with new piping that is more resistant to corrosion and leakage. This year’s project will include areas along West Main, Rader Road, Shady Acres and West South Street. The main line pipe in the street and alleys will be replaced at no charge to the property owners. The pipe that runs from the street to buildings and homes (service lines) will also need to be replaced, at the property owner’s expense, if they are steel. It may also require the relocation of gas meters.
Federal law prohibits KNG from reconnecting any steel service line. Your steel service line will need to be replaced and it will be your responsibility for the replacement. Gas will not be turned back on until the service line is replaced by a Qualified Contractor. Contact KNG Energy at 419-424-3427 for more information on replacing your service line.
How to Prevent Damage to Gas Pipelines State law requires a 48 hour notice to the Ohio Utilities Protection Service (“OUPS”) before any digging project. Whether you’re installing an underground dog fence, running water to an outbuilding or post-hole digging for a new mail box post, underground piping and other utilitys can be damaged. When you call OUPS at 1-800-362-2764 or call 811, buried utility lines on your property will be marked so you can dig safely.

Library News Our heartfelt thanks to our community members and patrons who have recently made donations or volunteered their time for library projects. In February, McComb Elementary fourth grade classes donated $190.58 to the library to purchase books to add to our juvenile collections. A big thank you to the students in Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Shenise and Mrs. Laux’s classes for their gift.
New carpet was purchased for the Library’s meeting room in March with memorial money from the family of Miriam Rader. Mrs. Hendrix’s high school homeroom students also volunteered at the library in March. The students cleaned windows, did yard work, swept and cleaned parking lots, picked up trash and even played the Easter Bunny for our morning story time group. Thanks to other donations the library now offers wireless internet service during library hours. Bring your wireless-enabled laptop computer to the library, turn it on, and go. There is no charge to use the service and the best part is there is no waiting for an available PC. Wireless users agree to abide by the Library’s Wireless Access Policy which is available at the circulation desk or can be read online at www.mccombpl.org.
The library sponsored a Go Green Program with the Kohl’s A-Team Volunteer project in April. Thirteen Kohl’s employees worked with a group of 22 children in grades 4-6 in a three hour program that featured recycling and gardening work here at the library. The group weeded, preened, mulched, planted flowers, played recycling Pictionary, made a craft featuring recyclable items and helped residents load items into the town recycling truck which was parked in the south lot. Thanks to their volunteer efforts, the library received a $500 grant from Kohl’s for the children’s department. The library was also recently awarded the top prize check of $1,000 from Kohl’s for our participation in their Go Green Events which were completed that week.
McComb Girl Scout Troop 20226 recently donated the movies The Lovely Bones, The Spy Next Door and Alice in Wonderland, as well as the books The Thief, Club Penguin and Witchy Worries of Abbie Adams, along with cd’s My World by Justin Bieber, and a $30 donation check.
New magazines added to our collection include: The Food Network, This Old House, Dog Fancy and Cat Fancy Board member, Nan Rider recently retired after completing 30 years of service. Her dedication and commitment to the board, our library and community will be truly missed. Filling her place on the board is Steve Rider. Steve has a background in food service management and also graduated in May from BGSU with a degree in accounting. Steve and his wife Joanne live in rural McComb with their 3 children. Summer Reading is in full swing for ages 3 through adult. Check out all our programs on our website: www.mccombpl.org. E-mail: mccomb@oplin.org
Village Brush Pile The Village has a brush pile for your tree limbs and other yard wastes. This pile is located back of the Waste Water Treatment Plant on Scott street, inside the chain link fence. It is open to Village residents only and open 24 hours a day. It is monitored as well. Grass clippings and leaves should be dumped on their own separate pile, which is located just before the Treatment Plant as you drive back. Signs are posted to help you get to the right area for dumping your items. The signs posted for Brush, Hardwood Items, Grass Clippings and Leaves are there to assist you, as well as the village, to speed up the mulching process. The less time the contractor has to spend separating items to grind, the less expensive it is for the Village. The Village asks that you do your best with abiding by these signs. Plastic bags are not allowed to be left at any of the piles. Please No Plastic. Thanks for you cooperation and courtesy.

From the Desk of Chief Smith We would like to stress a few points so you do not become a victim of theft. Lock your car doors, roll up your windows and keep valuables out of sight. Keep vehicle keys out of the vehicle. Do not make it easy for a thief to steal your car. Keep you bicycle locked up and record all information about the bike.
We would also like to take the opportunity to explain that McComb has a curfew of 10:00 p.m. every night. The ordinance states that any juvenile age 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Legal guardian is not a baby-sitter, older brother, etc. If a juvenile is coming home from an event, such as fireworks, ball games, or events out of town, like movies, bowling etc., the juvenile is to go straight home from these events when they have ended.
I would like to remind everyone about the New Booster Seat Law for 2010. Because seat belts were designed for adults, a new law regarding the use of booster seats will make Ohio's roadways safer for children. Children younger than 8, unless they are at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall, must use a booster seat. The law requires children younger than 4 years and less than 40 pounds, to use a child safety seat, and children 8 to 15 to use a safety seat or seat belt. Enforcement will include fines ranging from $25 to $75 per violation.
I remind all citizens to contact the Police Department at 419-293-3667, if they note any suspicious activity in or around their neighborhood, or to inform us of any concerns or questions you may have. Have a safe and happy summer from all of us at the McComb Police Department.
